Zbranek Custom Homes To Donate Profits To Assist LTYA

As most of you know, LTYA was the victim of a serious fraud committed by Count Me In (CMI), a 3rd party on-line registration vendor hired to collect online credit card payments.  CMI filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy liquidation in 2008 and with the filing, dashed the hopes of 250 organizations seeking to recover $5 million dollars from them.  Including the $195,000 owed to LTYA.  This development left us in a financial bind that forced us to spend our Rainy Day Funds to continue delivering the sport programs.

In an effort to help LTYA replenish these funds, Zbranek Custom Homes has volunteered to build a LTYA benefit home this fall.  Zbranek Custom Homes will start construction this January on a custom home in the Bluffs at Rough Hollow, with a goal of donating $150,000 of the profit to LTYA.

A project of this scale is achieved by securing donations and discounts from vendors and contractors that participate in this charitable building program.  “The success of this project is enhanced by the continued support of Haythem Dawlett and the Rough Hollow Waterfront Community, as well as the generosity of our vendors and contractors who have committed their participation,” says Tony Holt, Zbranek Custom Homes Owner/Partner.

This home will also be featured in the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin 2010 Parade of Homes, which amplifies the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for this project.  This special custom home has been pre-sold to a Lake Travis family and once completed, representatives from Zbranek Custom Homes and Rough Hollow Waterfront Community will present a check to LTYA.

These funds will help us return to a position where we can continue field expansion, equipment upgrades and other improvements necessary for us to meet the needs of this wonderful community.  “We live in a wonderful area and the Lake Travis Youth Association is an integral part of our community.  Even in these tough economic times, we are honored to have the ability to give back to such a worthy cause,” says Tony Holt.

Zbranek Custom Homes will be hosting exclusive construction events, including slab and frame parties, during the construction process.  These events will include representatives from Zbranek Custom Homes, LTYA, participating contractors, vendors, and the LTYA youth.

New Spring 2010 Basketball Academy

Once again, your basketball board is working diligently to provide your child the most rewarding, challenging and fun opportunites. Due to the massive positive response regarding our clinic programs, we are modifying the spring league. In the past, we allowed anyone to bring a self-made team (4-8th grade) and play similarly comprised teams during the week with no practice times. Ultimately, the teams were greatly unbalanced, the games mismatches, and the league limited to older children.

This year, we will be offering a LTYA BASKETBALL ACADEMY. Any child, K-8th grade, can register and participate. They will be divided into groups, similar to the current clinic sessions, and taught more specialized skills on at least one day during the week (schools schedules will vary the offering) WILL BE ON TUESDAYS A MAJORITY OF THE TIME. In addition, there will be another day (WILL BE ON WEDNESDAYS) allotted to various fun mini-tourneys for those said groups...ie 1X1, 3X3, free throw contests, etc...EACH WEEK. This will keep the program fresh and exciting while teaching various new skillsets.

Since it is an ACADEMY, there will be no jerseys but each participant will receive an LTYA BASKETBALL ACADEMY T-shirt and ball. The coaches at the ACADEMY will be none other than our HOT SHOTS, DEBORAH NEWKIRK and RICK CASTLE. Registration fees will be $120 for K-4th grade, and $150 5-8th grade.

Speaking of HOT SHOTS, we will be continuing this program. There will be a tryout toward the latter part of February. Due to tournament constraints, we will only have a 3/4th grade boys, 5/6th grade girls, 5th grade boys, and 6th grade boys teams. The fee will include coaching costs for practices and tournaments (3 included). The tournament fees will be a la carte. Tryouts will be with the HOT SHOTS Coaches. They will make selections of 10 children per team. There is a non-refundable tryout fee of $20. It will cover gym and coach costs. If your child is selected, the fee will be credited against the balance. The total registration fee will be $280. THERE WILL NOT BE A MAKEUP DAY. PRACTICES ON THURSDAYS FOR 1.5 HRS

Spring Lacrosse Information

Spring is officially lacrosse season and therefore the program is run quite differently than in the fall. LTYA Lacrosse is part of the Central Texas Youth Lacrosse Association. In the spring, players are assigned to a team with a specific coach. All coaches have high school and college playing experience. Games will be played against other youth sports organizations in the area such as Westlake, Cedar Park, Town and Country, and West Austin Youth Association.

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

Bantam Players ($150)
1st and 2nd Grade
Lightning Players ($150)
3rd and 4th Grade

Games and Practices

Bantam and Lighting will practice once a week and have one game a week.
Junior and Senior will practice two days a week and have one game a week.
Practices will begin in the middle of February and games will end in mid May.
Evaluations for 5th-8th grade will be held February 7th.
There will be no games or practices during Spring Break and Easter weekend.

Evaluations

Junior and Senior players, 5th-8th grade, will be required to attend an evaluation for team placement which will be held February 7th at HBMS. Exact times TBA.

Men’s Lacrosse stick (women’s lacrosse sticks are different)

We at Lake Travis Lacrosse are so glad that you have taken some time to find out all about the "fastest game on two feet."

Lacrosse is a fast moving, high scoring game that is packed with strategy and action! It is the fastest growing sport in the country with new youth, high school, and college teams popping up everywhere! Lacrosse combines ball movement similar to basketball, contact like hockey, and open field play like soccer.  Lacrosse is a contact sport, but the level of contact is adjusted as kids get older.  The youngest players, 1st and 2nd grade, play with minimal contact.  There are 10 players on the field with frequent substitutions.  Games vary in length by age, but range from one hour to approximately two hours.

Lacrosse is primarily a spring sport.  Lake Travis Lacrosse is part of the Central Texas Youth Lacrosse League.  In spring, we play against teams throughout Austin.  Most of our games are against Westlake, Cedar Park, Town and Country, North Austin, West Austin, and Dripping Springs.  You can view the CTYLA rules on this website.  The league is divided into four divisions: Bantam 1st/2nd grade, Lightning 3rd/4th grade, Junior 5th/6th grade, and Senior 7th/8th grade.  Junior and Senior have "A" division for more experienced players and "B" for those just starting out.

Fall Lacrosse is a scaled down version from the spring.  In fall, we have clinics and small teams and play a shortened version of the game.  This is a great way to keep your skills sharp or just try it out for the first time.  We also have two traveling teams for our more serious players.  These teams travel to a couple of tournaments.  (Tomahawk Lacrosse)

Lake Travis Lacrosse is one of the newer programs in LTYA, but has quickly become one of the largest in the Central Texas Youth Lacrosse League and is very well respected.  We have grown from 60 players to 135 in just three seasons, and have provided an excellent feeder program for the newly formed Lake Travis High School lacrosse team.  While the HS team is new, they are already competing on a Varsity level and with the support of our youth program will be winning their division in no time!

In order to play lacrosse, you will need some very important equipment.  All players need a lacrosse stick, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves and a mouthpiece.  You can find these items in discount packages for a whole set at South Swell Lacrosse shop on 360 and Dick's Sporting Goods.  You can also find equipment at Academy.  Used equipment can be found at Play It Again Sports, on Craigslist and EBay.

While lacrosse is fairly new in Lake Travis, it is not new to Central Texas.  There are 17 high schools in the area with Varsity teams and most support a JV as well.  Some of these programs have been around over 20 years!$0 $0 At this time, we do not offer girl's lacrosse in Lake Travis.  The girl's version of the game is different then the boys, with limited contact and less pads.  Once we have a parent that is willing to spearhead the girls' program, we will help get it off the ground.

Lake Travis Select Teams Have Strong Fall 2009 Season

Lake Travis’ select teams completed their Fall 2009 season with one of the best seasons in club history. With a club-record 6 teams playing Division I, 5 teams playing Super II and two teams competing at Division II, LT teams had 6 first or second place finishes in league play.

The 98G Black (U12) team became the first-ever LT team to win 1st place during a Fall WDDOA DI season, finishing league play with a 7-1 mark.

The 94G (U16) placed 2nd in the DI “A” flight with a 2-1-2 mark, automatically qualifying for Spring 2010 National Cup play, which is for Premier and top DI-level teams. This is the first time the 94G have qualified to play National Cup.

The 96G (U14) completed an undefeated season (6-0) after winning the WDDOA “B” flight and then winning 3-2 against Lady Lions 96 Red in a National Cup playoff qualifier, advancing to play Spring 2010 National Cup for the first time in team history.

The 95B (U15) team also went undefeated (3-0-2) after winning the WDDOA “B” flight before dropping a heartbreaker in shootout fashion against Georgetown Force in the National Cup playoff qualifier. The ‘95’s came back from down 2-0 with under 10 minutes to play to tie 2-2 before falling in the penalty shootout.

The 97B (U13) won the first of two Spring 2010 South Texas Classic League qualifier matches with a 3-1 against Tigres Storm 97B Black. The 97’s will play Forza FC 97B North with the winner advancing to play in the inaugural Spring 2010 South Texas Classic League (SCL). The SCL is a new league (started Fall 2009) run by STYSA that is above Division I to provide an opportunity for the most competitive play possible for the highest-level Division I teams within all of South Texas. The top DI teams from WDDOA and the top DI teams from EDDOA (Eastern District Division One Association) compete in the league.

In Super II level play, the 99B (U11) went a perfect 10-0 in their first season of select and advanced to play in the Western District Playoffs Dec. 5-6 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The 99B finished with a staggering 47 goals for with just three goals against.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the 99G Black (U11) girls finished with a 7-1 league mark, good for 2nd place in their Super II bracket. The 99’s advanced to play Nov. 21-22 in the CAYSA bracket playoffs in Manor. The top two of four teams from the bracket playoffs will advance to the Western District playoffs Dec. 5-6 in San Antonio.

The Lake Travis teams will now compete in post season tournaments and college showcases for the high school-aged teams. For the Spring 2010 season, Lake Travis will have a club-best five teams competing in National Cup.

2009 South Texas Olympic Development Program Player Opportunity Events for players born in the calendar years 1996, 1997 & 1998 (ODP operates on calendar years, not the Aug. 1 to July 31st club soccer calendar). These are basically extra training sessions for anyone possibly interested in trying out for the South Texas ODP State Teams in January 2010 conducted by the South Texas ODP coaching staff. The STYSA ODP Staff Coaches will conduct the training sessions to identify and assist in the development of elite level players in South Texas.

These sessions will expose players – boys & girls – to the demands and benefits of the Olympic Development Program in preparation for ODP try outs in January. Players will participate in four training sessions (two Sundays) designed to improve each players’ technical proficiency and tactical awareness. Combination Play, Playing Under Pressure, Team Possession and Speed of Play are some of the topics that will be presented.

All sessions will be conducted under the guidance of the South Texas Directors of Coaching – Mike Parsons and Neal Ellis.

**Please note that only 96 & 97 players are eligible for the ODP teams in 2010. STYSA is opening these POEs to the 98s to provide exposure to the ODP program and to get the 98s comfortable before trying out 2011.
